The grand prize is a two-night, three-day stay in one of the resort’s tupas (cozy housekeeping cottages) during the upcoming winter season. The lodging package, which is valid non-holiday midweek nights) includes use of ski and snowshoe trails, ice-skating pond, tubing hills, 50 percent off a group lesson per person, and use of the Finnish wood-burning sauna.

Select cross country ski equipment, ski packages, clothing and accessories will be offered at discounted prices. Lapland Lake’s owner-operator, former U.S. Olympian Olavi Hirvonen, and his carefully trained staff will offer assistance in proper equipment selection and sizing.

Free beverages and cookies will be available at the resort’s welcoming Tuulen Tupa Grill. Lunch selections will also be offered for sale.

Season pass memberships will be available at normally reduced early-season rates; regular season pass rates go into effect Monday, December 1.

The New Look NYSSRA Website is now up!

21 10 2008

NYSSRA Nordic, Inc. has launched its new-look website at www.nyssranordic.com .  This website should serve as a hub for the nordic disciplines and a central location for NYSSRA’s member clubs to convey information.   Our second VP, Dave Kvam has teamed up with XC Committee Chair, Larry Wilkinson to manage the website, and they are always looking for ideas on how to best serve the membership while still keeping the site streamlined.   One feature of the new site is a commitment to blogging as a way to get timely news to our membership.  Currently there are blogs maintained by XC, Ski-O, Biathlon, the Points Series and by some of our members and member clubs.  NYSSRA wants you to contribute.  If you are a club leader, use our site to get your information out to our entire membership.  If you are a ski racer with an interesting story, share it with us.  Set up a blog and contact me (perunordic@yahoo.com).  Or contact me and I will help you set one up.  Be a part  of the NYSSRA story.

NYSEF's Margaret Maher hosts another great race

Margaret and NYSEF host another great event

October 6- NYSEF Nordic hosted the USA’s best Nordic Skiers during the annual “Climb to the Castle” race.  Defending NYSSRA Champion, Duncan Douglas won the event, besting US Ski Team star, Kris Freeman.  Other USST notables, like Andy Newell, Garrot Kuzzy and Torin Koos also took part.

NYSSRA's Joe Korzenecki hammers out the hillclimb!

Likewise, a bunch of NYSSRA members also skied in the race, including members of NYSEF and Peru Nordic.  The race start was bumped back and moved down towards Wilmington to accomodate the snow and ice collecting on the tollroad above 3500′.  The fantastic Adirondack foliage was a real treat for the racers, and a nice awards ceremony followed the event at the Olympic Training Center.  NYSSRA thanks Margaret Maher and Matt Cook of NYSEF for putting on another spectacular event.  They announced that this race will return to the calendar next season and will be moved back to a weekend.  Results are available at http://nysefnordic.wordpress.com

NYSSRA and NENSA reach membership agreement

2 10 2008

Another benefit has been added to your NYSSRA membership.  All NYSSRA members will also be considered full members of NENSA (New England Nordic Ski Association).  This means that NYSSRA members will be able to ski in NENSA races without paying extra non-member fees.  NYSSRA members will be eligible for NENSA Eastern Cup points series races.  And, this season, NENSA is hosting a SuperTour event in Rumford, Maine.  Hopefully many NYSSRA members will take advantage of this benefit and go tangle with the skiers in New England.  In addition, NENSA members will be considered NYSSRA members when racing in NYSSRA races.  They will be eligible to compete in the points series and to race in the Champions Cup race to compete for end of season awards.
